BBC’s Repair Shop helps GEOTEC Client Selsey Pavilion Theatre

NEWS 07/10/2024

GEOTEC Surveys Ltd completed a Utility Mapping, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Topographical Survey for the Selsey Pavilion Trust (SPT) in May 2023 to help with their grant applications and subsequent purchase of the building.

The Trust acquired the site in February 2024 and is working at fully restoring the Pavilion into an arts and heritage centre, where they hope to put on iconic, classic films for the local community to enjoy, using a vintage film projector, amongst other activities and functions.

On Wednesday 25th September, Christian Skelton, Chair of the Selsey Pavilion Trust, appeared on the BBC’s The Repair Shop (Series 13, Episode 13), and asked the team to restore the ageing cinema projector.

Mark Stuckey was tasked with sorting the circuitry and electrics to get power to the motor, sourcing & fitting the 1.6KW Xenon projector lamp and getting the projector up and running and giving it a glow up, whilst maintaining its traditional character.

The projector which runs on 35mm film would have been used up until the pavilion cinema closed in 1974.

On the Programme, Mark indicated that renovating the film projector was his favourite project to date on The Repair Shop.

The Repair Shop is located in the Court Barn at the nearby Weald and Downland Living Museum, in West Dean, Singleton, Chichester.  Whilst filming, the site around Court Barn is closed to the public, but there are various ‘Sneak Peek’ dates taking place throughout the year.

The museum was founded in 1970 and covers 40 acres of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex.

It includes over 50 historic buildings dating from 950AD to the 19th century, together with period gardens, traditional farm animals and a mill pond.

The Living Museum also run various courses such as falconry, spinning, belt making, leather work, sword & axe casting as well as oak timber framing.

They host a number of events throughout the year including Halloween Half Terms activities, tree decorating and an Advent & Christmas Market.
